Should I purchase a Toyota Corolla for city driving?

I'm considering purchasing a Toyota Corolla for daily city driving. Is it a good choice for urban areas? Can it handle the stop-and-go traffic? How does it compare to other compact cars in terms of fuel efficiency and maintenance costs?
