Should I buy a Toyota Highlander or a Subaru Outback for my family?

I am looking for a reliable family car that can handle rough terrain and has enough space for all our camping gear. I have narrowed it down to the Toyota Highlander and the Subaru Outback, but I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Any recommendations?
