Is it worth upgrading the tires on a Toyota Hilux?

I recently bought a Toyota Hilux and I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the tires. I mostly drive on highways and city roads, but I also plan on going for occasional off-road trips. Will upgrading the tires make a noticeable difference in performance or is it just a waste of money?
