Is it worth it to upgrade to a Toyota Prius from a traditional gas vehicle?

I've been considering making the switch to a more eco-friendly car and the Toyota Prius seems like a popular choice. Is it worth it to make the switch or should I stick with a traditional gas vehicle? What are the benefits and drawbacks of owning a Prius?
