To properly break in your new engine, it is recommended to vary your speed and avoid sustained high RPMs for the first 1,000 miles. This will allow the engine to properly seat all of its components. Make sure to also follow the manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals to ensure the engine is properly lubricated.

I've been a Toyota mechanic for over 10 years and the best advice I can give for breaking in a new engine is to avoid quick acceleration and deceleration, as well as avoiding heavy loads. This will allow the engine to gradually build up its load and prevent any damage to the components.

I personally own a Toyota GR86 and I highly recommend following the manufacturer's recommendation for breaking in the engine. I took it easy for the first 1,000 miles and now my engine runs like a dream.
