How do I know when it's time to replace my Toyota Yaris' brake pads?

I've been driving my Toyota Yaris for about 40,000 miles now and I'm not sure when I should replace my brake pads. How can I tell if they need to be replaced? Should I take my car to a mechanic or is it something I can do myself?

It's always best to consult a mechanic for any major repairs on your car. However, there are some signs you can look out for to determine if your brake pads need to be replaced. One of the most telltale signs is if you hear a high-pitched squeaking or grinding noise when you brake. This means the brake pads are getting worn down and need to be replaced. You should also check the thickness of the brake pads. If they are less than a quarter inch thick, it's time to replace them.

Replacing your brake pads is not a difficult task and can save you money in the long run. You can purchase new brake pads from any auto parts store and follow a tutorial online to replace them yourself. Just make sure to follow all safety precautions and take your time. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, it's always better to take your car to a trusted mechanic.

Another way to tell if your brake pads need to be replaced is by looking at the wear indicator. This is a small piece of metal that is attached to the brake pad and makes a loud noise when it starts to touch the rotor. If you hear this noise, it's time to replace your brake pads. It's also a good idea to get your brake pads inspected every time you get an oil change, to catch any potential issues early on.
