Best tires for off-roading in a Toyota Hilux?

I love taking my Toyota Hilux off-road, but I'm not sure what tires are best suited for that type of terrain. Should I go for all-terrain or mud-terrain tires? And what brands do you recommend? Any tips for maintaining and prolonging the lifespan of off-road tires?
